The engineered vertical nature bamboo flooring has a top bamboo layer over layers of poplar underneath.  Such layered structure is to minimize the potential of expansion and contraction in the floating floor.

Engineered Bamboo flooring is recommended for a floating floor, for instance, over concrete / gypcrete subfloor.  The surfaces of tongue and groove are unfinished which will provide a better bonding strength with a recommended glue.
